Cancer Care

Mission

Penyayang Pesakit Kanser (literally meaning Cancer Patient Care) aims to extend care, comfort, consolation and compassion to all cancer patients, cancer survivors and their families.

Objective

  • To source and sell items for the use of cancer patients and persons requiring rehabilitation at subsidized rates.

PENYAYANG PESAKIT KANSER 

Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia (PENYAYANG) initiated and supports the development of Penyayang Pesakit Kanser. Positive Image Centres have been established by Penyayang Pesakit Kanser to extend its services to patients.

Penyayang Pesakit Kanser (PPK) was launched in 2004 at Putrajaya Hospital by YABhg Tun Endon Mahmood. In 2025 PPK extended the same care and comfort to patients requiring rehabilitation.

Community Work Among Undergraduates

Kelab Penyayang

Kelab Penyayang is a student-led volunteer club established under Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE). Operating primarily in Malaysian higher education institutions, both public and private, the club aims to foster a culture of volunteerism, compassion, and social responsibility among students.

Objectives

  • Promote volunteerism and noble values among youth through community service initiatives.
  • Encourage students to develop leadership, teamwork, and empathy through impactful projects.
  • Address societal needs by implementing creative and sustainable community programs.

     

Key Features

Structure: Each Kelab Penyayang operates as a registered student organization within universities, guided by Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia’s framework.

Activities

  • The core mission is to adopt a charitable home as a primary objective of the Kelab Penyayang to offer continuous assistance. Members organize and participate in diverse community projects, such as charity drives, environmental initiatives, educational outreach, and welfare programs for underserved communities.
  • Piala Sukarelawan Menteri Pendidikan Tinggi Malaysia: Kelab Penyayang teams compete in this biennial competition, submitting innovative project proposals for a chance to win funding (e.g., RM25,000) and a challenge trophy to implement their initiatives.

Impact

Kelab Penyayang plays a pivotal role in nurturing socially conscious students, encouraging them to contribute to national unity and community development. Through hands-on projects and competitions, it empowers youth to address real-world issues, fostering a sense of responsibility and compassion.

Community Outreach Involvement

SahabatPENYAYANG Volunteer Corps

Open to all Malaysians, this programme facilitates volunteer services through PENYAYANG’s coordinated activities, promoting a culture of volunteerism and supporting diverse community initiatives.

Volunteers provide daily support to outpatients at the National Cancer Institute through:

  • Volunteer Assistance: Supporting outpatients with hospital navigation.
  • Anjung Budi Hospitality Corner: Offering complimentary refreshments, a reading corner, and board games.
  • Volunteers On Wheels (VOW): Providing free transportation within the hospital area based on patient needs.

Cancer Care

  • Positive Image: Supplies essential items and services for cancer patients.
  • Education & Awareness: Enhances quality of life through forums, seminars, online exercises, exhibitions, and campaigns.
  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD): Professional therapy services, supported by training programmes in collaboration with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and the Ministry of Health.
  • Friends of Positive Image: A support group offering moral, social, and practical assistance, including job support and healthy living initiatives.

Festive Season Outreach

PENYAYANG delivers grocery hampers and festive gifts (duit raya/ang pow) to urban poor families during:

  • BudiPENYAYANG Ramadhan
  • A Gift of Joy for Chinese New Year
  • BudiPENYAYANG Deepavali

Target Recipients: Low-income families, senior citizens living alone, cancer patients, individuals with special needs, single mothers with special needs children, and those with chronic illnesses.

Senior Citizen Support

Volunteers visit senior citizens living alone to assist with household chores, gardening, and tidying living spaces. Additional services include transportation for hospital appointments, visits to the Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat, or local grocers.

Support for People with Disabilities

PENYAYANG organizes inclusive activities for children with hearing impairments, disabled senior citizens, and families with disabled children, fostering community participation and support.

Nurturing Productive And Responsible Citizens.

Mission

To promote and nurture the development of "Keluarga Bahagia" so as to ensure the development and sustenance of Malaysia as a dynamic and progressive nation.

Objectives

  • To promote and instill universal family values.
  • To strengthen and enhance human interaction within families and communities.
  • To promote the development of wholesome families which will contribute towards the building of a caring society.
  • To propagate the importance of the family unit as integral to the sustenance of a dynamic and progressive nation

 

CULTURE & HERITAGE

Key programmes:

PENYAYANG subscribes to the promotion of Malaysian Culture, Arts and Heritage. In full realization of its constraints and limitations, PENYAYANG focuses on promoting Malaysia Batik and Peranakan culture and heritage.

PENYAYANG organizes initiatives to sustain Malaysia Batik and revive Nyonya Kebaya, including:

  • Malaysia Batik: Crafted for the World Movement: Launched to support the batik industry’s sustainability.
  • Piala Seri Endon Batik Design Competition: Established in 2003, this Competition nurtures batik design talent, producing over 2,500 designers nationwide. Supported by Royal Selangor and MOTAC, it provides recognition and trophies for outstanding creativity.
  • Batik Fun Walk: An annual event since 2003, held in Kuala Lumpur, where participants showcase creatively styled batik, supported by MOTAC.
  • Batik Explosion: A series of cultural activities in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to celebrate Malaysia Batik Day
  • VIVA Batik Malaysia: A December event at Central Market, Kuala Lumpur, enabling batik producers and entrepreneurs to market their products to local and international audiences.
  • Publication: Batik Book entitled “Malaysian Batik: Reinventing A Tradition” (Tuttle: 2010)

Key Initiatives

  • Batik Guild Sdn Bhd: Incorporated in 2003 under the Companies Act 1965 to drive the business revitalization of Malaysia Batik, initiated through the Malaysia Batik: Crafted for the World Movement.
  • Persatuan Batik Malaysia (PBM): Established in 2006 to unite batik entrepreneurs and stakeholders, to manage programmes for industry growth.

Social Enterprise

Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia established Batik Guild Sdn Bhd, incorporated under the Registrar of Companies (ROC) and governed by a Board of Directors, to support batik artisans and promote Malaysia Batik through innovative programmes, partnerships, and market opportunities.

Objectives

  • Cultivate batik artisans’ talents.
  • Provide financial advances to deserving batik makers.
  • Offer rent-free spaces for artisans.
  • Fulfill government and corporate batik product orders.

Batik Guild Sdn Bhd

Batik Guild champions the growth of Malaysia Batik by organizing promotional activities and collaborating with external organizations to expand market reach, ensuring new opportunities for artisans.
